Art Basel 2019

An exhibition of my work presented at Art Basel Miami, partnered with Surgeon Studios, a creative collective based in Los Angeles, and the Dr. Brandt Foundation.

The focus of this exhibition was mental health. With this in mind, I created a body of work - the focus being on my own mental health.

PROCESS

I started by drawing a variety of hands in all black onto several sheets of transparent paper.
The initial idea was to screen print several arms and hands onto canvas. However, due to complications with the emulsion+glue mixture, the exposed screens were difficult to work with
and thus I had to find an alternative solution. I instead used a lightbox to retrace the illustrations onto solid paper, trimmed out stencils, and began spray painting.

Though not the initial plan, I felt the dripping, unpredictable variations of the arms and paint depicted the idea very well. Each final canvas stood 6 feet tall and about 3 feet wide.
